SECONDARY OPERATIONS: HOT FOILING
BEC Group provide several secondary operations as well as tooling and plastic injection moulding, completed in-house, they add value to products through high-spec finishes and branding. These services range from assembly to hot foiling, heat staking, pad printing and ultra-sonic welding. What is hot foiling? Hot foiling is a secondary operation BEC uses to print text, images, and logos onto plastic mouldings for information, decoration, or branding. The process often uses metallic, eye-catching foils that are ideal for making your product stand out from the competition. Above, an example of a BEC customer’s hot foiling How is it used? Several different methods of hot foiling are available, at BEC this process begins with a moulding. The area which is to be hot foiled onto is moulded to stand proud from the rest of the mould. From there a layer of … Continue reading
BEC Group Upgrades 3D Printer and Scanner
BEC Group have upgraded our 3D printer and scanner suite to make tooling and moulding development easier and quicker for our customers. BEC clients are now able to reverse engineer projects from a legacy part or those without CAD drawings available. By bringing in a 3D part to BEC, scanning it with our new Einscan Pro HD 3D Scanner and producing a CAD file from this scan, clients can now create a traditional steel mould tool and produce mouldings from this. The Einscan Pro HD captures high resolution data at super quick speeds to produce highly accurate CAD drawings. In addition, our new Fusion F410 3D Printer is ideal for prototyping. This is an important step that ties in with the Design for Manufacture process carried out by our design team. Using a 3D printer can remove 80% of the costs … Continue reading

Secondary Operations: Ultrasonic Welding
As plastic injection moulding specialists, BEC Group’s services are not limited to tooling and moulding; once designs are manufactured, our in-house second operations team offer a range of add-ons to finish your project. All carried out on site, these services include ultrasonic welding, printing, hot foiling and assembly amongst others. What is it? Ultrasonic welding is the process of using high frequency ultrasonic vibrations to weld two materials together. A welding sonotrode (usually made from steel, aluminium or titanium) uses mechanical vibrations that cause friction between the two materials by rubbing them together- raising their surface temperatures. This frictional heat allows the materials to bind to one another, creating a solid-state weld. This process is incredibly quick (usually less than a second) and is perfect for mass production. How is it used? In the plastic injection moulding industry, ultrasonic welding … Continue reading
