Depth Media Filters for Emissions Applications

BEC was approached by an automotive component supplier to create a 3-part bespoke mesh filter used in conjunction with AdBlue systems to help reduce diesel emissions by 70%. This custom-designed filter was trialled, tooled, and produced at volume, ultimately supplying the customer tens of thousands of filters per month. Purpose-developed depth-media was utilised for both its chemical compatibility with adblue, and its ability to capture particulates throughout the depth of the mesh, not just at a surface level.

As quantities of this filter have fluctuated, BEC have reacted – producing further tools and implementing a 24-hour nightshift to rapidly increase capacity and supply filters across the globe swiftly.

Bespoke Overmoulded Filters for Air Suspension Systems

A standout filters project involved producing bespoke overmoulded filters for a specialist automotive air suspension product used in SUVs. In this application, BEC worked closely with the client’s design team to design tooling and produce filter units from sintered mesh pre-forms encapsulated in plastic.

These tiny but critical filters are integral to protecting air solenoids within the suspension system —BEC supplied them reliably for over 15 years, adapting production volumes to market needs throughout both the high volume and after-market product lifecycle.

Heavy-Duty Nylon Fuel Filters

A full solution “rock catcher” fuel filter for heavy-duty engines was tooled and moulded at BEC Group. The replaceable filter, produced for AC Delco was designed to protect large engines from damage by catching metal particles within the oil system. A suite of three two-cavity tools were produced on site at BEC, comprising the outer fuel chamber, inner, and filter sections. These were moulded separately and assembled along with inner and outer O-rings and a spring, forming a sealed filter unit. Material selection was crucial to the success of the filter in the tough chemical environment of the engine- eventually 300-micron nylon mesh, and glass filled nylon were selected.
